Job Summary:

The host/hostess monitors the open dining sections of the restaurant for empty and cleaned tables, estimates wait times for guests, monitors the guest waiting list, and ensures that the needs of the guests are met while they are waiting. The host/hostess is also responsible for answering the telephone, booking reservations, and moving tables together to accommodate large parties

Essential Functions:

  • Provide exceptional hospitality to guests and co-workers
  • Greet guests and patrons personally and on the telephone
  • Offer appropriate seating arrangements
  • Present menus and take orders
  • Ensure the quantity of menus is sufficient to cater to the number of guests
  • Set up dining rooms and make reservation arrangements
  • Maintain clean and organized tables and work area
  • Assist room service when and as needed

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Previous restaurant experience required
  • Knowledge of OpenTable preferred
  • Flexible availability
  • Must be available to work both days and nights, weekdays and weekends
  • Must have a professional appearance and demeanor
  • Attention to detail
  • “Guests first” attitude
  • Energetic and enthusiastic personality essential
  • Will work for extended periods of time without sitting
  • Must meet minimum state age requirements

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
